The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology has 36 primary faculty and approximately 91 scientific and clerical staff. These individuals work on a broad range of scientific arease spannning fundamental principles of biology, biochemistry and biophysics to applied solutions to medically important problems. Among the disciplinary strengths of the department are computational and structural biology, molecular virology, DNA replication and repair, and RNA biology. The department benefits from a large cadre of secondary faculty, which enhance the intellectual life of the department and from a very close relationship with the Sealy Center for Structural Biology and Molecular Biophysics.
The Biochemistry & Molecular Biology Graduate Program is designed to prepare students for careers investigating the molecular nature of biomedical phenomena and translating that knowledge to improve human health. Our curriculum provides training in cutting edge technology, critical thinking, and verbal and written communication skills, preparing graduates to be fully competitive for positions in various career paths.
